Attributes

Every Amber GM has their own way of interpreting attributes. I've tried to give an overview of how I intend to deal with them here.

I'm planning on playing things pretty close. Even if 1st in warfare fences with 4th in warfare, just because 1st knows she can win doesn't mean it's trivial. Any contest between ranked PCs is a stressful contest. In the above example , 4th in warfare could drag things out long enough to make endurance a factor. He'd still lose, but 1st would be in rough shape afterwards.

Psyche: Psyche backs all the major powers. If there's question about resisting or maintaining an effect, it will come down to psyche. Psychic contact is harder to establish than in the ADRPG. Physical contact isn't enough to do it. Eye contact will work, but it isn't fast; something on the order of 15-30 seconds. Anyone close enough to hold eye contact for that long is also well within reach of a sword, a dagger or a fist. So it's not really useful in combat unless you can beat your opponent in another area and get them to hold still for long enough. Making psychic contact is best left to powers.

Strength: A high strength is enough to absorb punches. A knife or sword will still slice through you like, well, a knife through flesh. If you want protection, get some armour. On the other hand, in a fist fight, you can shrug off most people's blows, no matter how well placed. When it comes to hand to hand combat, the high strength character dominates. The high warfare PC can't dance in and out, dishing out lethal hand strike and kicks under the aegis of "martial arts"; if the strength character can reach the warfare guy, the warfare guy is toast. Warfare's application in this scenario comes down to keeping away from the strength character.

Endurance: Pretty standard. Huge factor in shapeshifting and maintaining powers.

Warfare: Again, pretty much what you'd expect. Warfare has limits, though. Anticipating invisible opponents seems pretty flimsy to me.
